i'm _u ruipeng, from jinan foreign language school international centre.
like my fellow recipients, i feel greatly honoured to receive the outstanding cambridge learner award. i regard this as not only a milestone in my high school years, but also a confirmation of my abilities and past efforts. indeed, i believe that all students have tried their best in these e_aminations. so, what e_actly makes us stand out? my answer is, communication.
so, what is communication then? according to my personal e_periences, the term communication may be divided into three major sub-divisions, which are e_pression, discussion and evaluation. even though these abilities will not only provide you with efficiency in daily studies and important e_aminations but also be beneficial to you in terms of social communication, i didn't recognise the significance of these until i studied the a-level information technology course.
i have a variety of interests. however, before i entered high school, i liked to describe myself as a 'sole worker' due to the fact that all of my interests such as playing the flute or playing chess would only require me to work independently and try to be an e_pert in these fields, rather than making use of the benefits of communication.
later on, during my studies, the need for high-quality e_pression lay before me when i began to show interest in reading and writing poetry. i was amazed by the beauty of language and fascinated by foreign literature. fortunately, at the same time, i had the opportunity to be a member of jinan foreign language school international centre, studying cambridge international a-level courses and trying to maintain these interests. but only then did i find it challenging since a-levels require a range of abilities such as comprehending and evaluating multiple case studies, e_pressing coherent arguments, managing time effectively, as well as being enthusiastic for the courses you selected. by the end of my first year in the centre, i had developed a thorough passion for data analysis. hence, my desire to study information technology was enhanced.
frankly, there were times when i struggled in studying this subject as it contains the most up-to-date knowledge in relation to a wide range of subjects such as economics and sociology. it was obvious that one would find it impossible to acquire all the knowledge they needed to learn without group work and discussions. hence our teacher divided topics into small tasks and assigned them to each student individually. later on, students would be required to give presentations and discussions regarding their research based on the assigned tasks. the rest of the class would be asked to provide valuable evaluation in the form of feedback, which would be helpful for our communication skills as well as critical thinking. in this way, all students including me would benefit from group work and discussions. therefore, my personal effort would not burst into bloom without communicating with other brilliant people in and outside of my class.
now, i would like to give my sincerest thanks to the cambridge assessment international education for organising such a wonderful event, giving me the opportunity to receive this award and deliver a speech today. i would also like to thank all the teachers and people who gave me guidance and encouragement during my studies. i also want to share this happiness with my parents for their invaluable support throughout my high school life.
many roads lead to success, communication is just one of the shortcuts that i choose. at the end of my speech, i want to give my sincerest wishes to all of us: we shall meet again in our final destination of success!

因为高考试题在命题形式上侧重于考查发言稿正文的写法。所以写正文时要注意以下三点：
观点要鲜明。对问题持有什看法，要明确表态，不要含糊其辞。要中心明确，重点突出，但不必面面俱到。
条理要清晰。发言稿要谈几方面的问题，每一方面有那些要点要进行阐述，都要安排得有条有理，让人听起来容易抓住重点。
适当增加关联词和细节。发言稿开头于结尾已经给出。那么在命题形式上侧重于考查发言稿正文的写法，所以我们在根据要点组织正文内容时，可以适当增加关联词和细节，以使短文连贯、完整。
语言要简洁明快，发言时因为要直接面对听众，所以发言稿的特定形式决定了其语言的口语性强，因此应少用复杂句，多用简单句。话说的要准确、易懂，最好运用大众语言。所以我们在组织句子时要注意我是可爱的点点三多一少我是可爱的点点即简单句式多，祈使句多、情态动词多，修饰性词语少。但文中的句型也要善于变化，不要过于单一。

it is my honour to stand before you and deliver this speech of welcoming remarks to our newly enrowed students of the 2024 chongqing university of posts and telecommunications academic year.

well to be honest my first months here 3 years ago, i wondered why i was here and even after i wondered why everyone else was here……… learning in a foreign language everything seemed not to make any sense. i shared these thoughts with a senior student who i met here and all he had to say was that i would either way fail my entire courses in the first year. these words did not heal my wounded thoughts but left me with unsettled thoughts of how i was going to make it through. am glad to stand here today and testify that i have not once failed a course since my sophomore year. this did not however happen by luck but through hard work, discipline and persistence.
everyone here belongs and each and every one of you newly enrolled students will find your place. there will be many things, many traditions that you will come to know. but you will come to understand what i believe is most important about this place—that it is the centre of new and original thought and ideas. and it is ideas that are ultimately most important in this world.
cqupt provides an environment good to both learn and grow as an individual and as a part of a community. do not wait to be told or pushed to join an e_tracurricular activity e.g sports meetings, school organised competitions etc, all these activities are organised for us students and it is up to us to organise ourselves and enjoy these activities together. as the saying goes all work not play makes jack a dull boy.
one question you should keep asking yourself whilst here is, how do i make the most of my time here. it is ok keep refining your answer as time goes by putting into mind that you are only here for some time and not forever, and what you want to make is the very best and the best of memories out it.

(中文译文) 大家下午好，今天非常高兴能和这么多新鲜的面孔相聚于此。我叫王__，大四1101班的学生，今天感到万分荣幸能在这和大家分享自己的经历并且在你们大学生活刚开始的时候给你们一些建议。 其实我十分好奇你们在这样一个时间点对于一场精彩大学生活的定义。有人曾经抱怨说大学四年完全是浪费时间和金钱, 对此，你们是这样认为的吗?答案是否定的。我想告诉大家的是，只要你们好好经营自己的大学生活，它将成为你们人生中的宝贵财富。 接下来我想和大家简单分享一下我大学的经历。我始终记得我大一的这个时候一位学姐在这个台上给我们分享经验的场景。我当时被她的英语口语深深震撼了，因而决定努力奋斗，争取达到像她一样的水平。所以，我在大学期间所做的其实就是充分利用大学的各种资源发展自己的潜力，提升自己的水平。大一的时候，我像高中那样刻苦学习，从不逃课，上课认真听讲，课后认真复习，独立完成作业。那个时候，大学对于我来说是一个全新的人生阶段，我必须想办法让自己尽快适应它。为了提高自己的能力，我积极参加各种各样的活动和社团，诸如加入学生会、走访敬老院、街头义务卖报、红歌合唱比赛及朗诵比赛等。通过一年的努力，我的能力在很大程度上得到了提高。大二一年，对我来说是一个非常重要的转折点。我尝试着学习尽可能多的知识并将其运用到实践中。第十八届中国日报社21世纪杯全国英语演讲比赛就是我大学生活中仍旧光彩夺目的一笔，我非常幸运地获得了学校的特等奖。但其实名次远远不是最重要的，重要的是我从这个比赛中真的收获了很多。很明显，我的英语演讲能力得到了一定程度的提升，从此不再惧怕在公众面前发言，同时我也认识了一些在英语方面志同道合的朋友，能一起共享英语学习心得。其他诸如湖北省翻译大赛等，我就不在此一一赘述。此外，社会志愿活动也值得一提。__年7月，我有幸能够作为一名志愿者赴新加坡参与第二届__国际传统武术大赛。同样也是我人生中一次有价值的体验，我亲身感受了一种不同的文化，开阔了眼界。在这里，我想告诉大家的是，大学是我们人生旅程中一个综合的平台，我们应该抓住每一个提升自己的机会，只要这样才能得到成长。 大三这一年对于我的成长进步又是一次巨大的飞跃。有了前两年打下的英语基础，我参加了更多重要的学科竞赛，获得中央电视台我是可爱的点点希望之星我是可爱的点点英语风采大赛湖北省决赛一等奖、第五届海峡两岸口译大赛一等奖、全国大学生英语竞赛一等奖等。经过这样一系列的赛事，我对英语学习的道路更加有信心。接下来，我会给大家一些建议，以帮助大家为自己的大学时光增光添彩。 建议一：涉猎知识，充实自己 对于在座的大多数同学来说，大学四年将会是你们人生中异常宝贵的学习时光。有人曾经作过这样的比喻，大学就像一个染缸，这就意味着你的行为很容易会被他人左右。其实，如果你下定决心去学习，你会被知识和智慧环绕;但如果你失去了学习的欲望，你的大学四年可能会一无所得。 建议二：发挥潜力，培养兴趣 大家都知道，相对高中来说，大学是一个综合的平台。我们不需要整天埋头苦学，而是要力求全面发展，修身养性，找到自己的兴趣所在。比如说，如果你热爱跳舞，不妨加入舞蹈协会去锻炼自己。大胆去展示吧!有乐趣的生活才会多姿多彩。 建议三：乐观向上，充满希望 可能大家听说过，大学生活由自己主宰。有时候你会发现师长们不会告诉你每件事该如何处理，所以有时候对碰到的困难感到手足无措实属正常。但是，请记住，生活充满了跌宕起伏，困境仅仅只是生活的一部分。保持积极乐观，你总会找到出路。 总之，大家应该把自己的特点与上述建议相结合，并坚持下去，你会发现成功就在离你不远的地方等着你。

young men and young ladies, today is a day of celebration and a day of thanks. it marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life. soon, you will start your journey of studying abroad. apart from giving you my congratulations and best wishes, i’d like to ask you one question: are you ready for your dream?
接下来我想分享自己在英国留学的一段经历。当初因雅思只考了5分，我无法申请到研究生，只得被迫延长一年的语言学习，由此引发的是生活上的窘迫和无休止的打工。白天，餐厅服务员、清洁工、保姆等多个工作角色令我筋疲力尽，夜晚还要背单词。有段时间，我感到非常孤独和艰难。
now i want to share with you some of my stories studying in the united kingdom. at that time, my english was not good enough to get a pretty ielts score. i only got 5, unable to be enrolled in a graduate school, and had to study the language for one e_tra year. because of that e_tra year, i ran out of money and had to take on part-time jobs. incessant part-time jobs. by day, i had to pick up several part-time roles, waitress, cleaner, baby-sitter and so on, which was very e_hausting. by night, i had to study the language and try my best to memorize new words. there was a time when i felt very lonely and thought that life was difficult.
为了尽快适应，从早上5点起床晨跑，到晚上11点结束最后一份工作，我高度自律，重新规划自己的时间，身心状况渐渐好转。
to better adapt myself to the new conditions, every day i got up at five o’clock for a morning jog to keep fit and closed my last part-time job around 11 o’clock at night. i became highly self-disciplined and rescheduled my work and study. gradually, i regained my positive attitude and became healthier.
后来，回顾留学生涯，我懂得了生活的意义就是，积极行动，从当下开始。也正是这段艰难的岁月，让回国后已是34岁的我，在上海面临失业、生活拮据等种种挑战，都能积极应对、从容不迫。
looking back on that period of time, i’ve learned that whatever life puts you through, you can always choose joy and meaning by taking positive actions and starting from the present. later in life, i have inevitably encountered various difficulties and challenges, like unemployment and short of money at 34 years old when i came back to shanghai from abroad, and so on and so forth. it is because of that difficult time in the uk that i can actively handle these later challenges in my life in a composed way.
此刻在这里分享我人生中遇到的困苦，并不希望大家过多关注苦难本身，而是想要你们懂得，希望和力量是我们心中永远无法熄灭的灯。我希望你们生命中珍贵的每一天都快乐而充实，我希望你们感谢每一次呼吸，感激生命本身存在的意义。
i’m sharing this with you not in the hopes that you can know the various inevitable difficulties ahead of you, but in the hopes that you can understand hope and strength are the light within us that can never be e_tinguished. i hope that you’ll live each day happily and fully. i hope that you are grateful for each breath you take and that you are grateful for life itself.
这一年，我们迫不及待地想看到你们充满光明的未来，我和所有人都深深地为你们骄傲。
this year, we can’t wait to see how you all turn out. and all of us are very proud of what you have achieved.
